Mdk9.1 - Nvidia drivers won't work

I've not been able to install the nvidia drivers (w/ hardware accelaration) on my system: I've done it all by the book, edit my XF86Conf-4 file, check for additional lines in others archives, install the dependencies, etc. The only thing I want to know is if there is anyone out there who has succeded intalling this drivers, (and his/her secret) plz, plz, plz

Let people know (a) what motherboard or graohics card you are using and (b) whether you had any graphics before you installed the nVidia drivers. Also you MUST have the v4 XFree loaded, the v3 (which is also included on the Mandrake Disk) WILL NOT WORK.

There are no dependencies to my knowledge (the nForce motherboard stuff requires kernel-source but the video drivers do not).

If you have Mandrake re-starting your X everytime you try to stop it, simply edit the "nv" to "nvidia" in XF86Config-4 and reboot BEFORE you load the nVidia driver. This will prevent X running then you can issue the command line to patch in the nVidia driver.

Mandrake 9.0 and 9.1 has always worked fine with the nVidia drivers for my setup. I have a GF3 Ti 200 with 128DDR RAM

Proud,

I have the same video card (gf3 ti200), latest unified drivers, Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard, 512mb RAM, red hat 9, and I can't make it work either...

Keeps saying that it can't find a kernal mode or something... Sorta new at this so I can try attaching logs if it will help, but wondering if this is a known problem with an easy fix?

Thanks in advance,

James

I'm really not sure why yours isnt working. The only time I had problems was when using the 'secure' mandrake kernel, but the default one works fine. Maybe you're using a tweaked one from RedHat?

Here i'm using mandrake9.1 wtih the NVIDIA drivers without any problem. It runs on MSI Nforce-based motherboard. (IGP onboard)
Finally TuxRacer is playable, and that's what counts......

I don't think so, using brand new 2.4.21 from kernel.org...

I'm actually trying to get some of my eng-apps going... RSI ENVI, Autodesk MD, etc... Works in software mode (sort of) but would really be cool if I could have acceleration.

Plus I could play tux racer!

people have to realize when it comes to the nvidia drivers it makes not one bit of difference if his or hers works on there machine with the same hardware...there is so many factors that make these drivers work, and if they don't work the first time, then its usually a long road getting them to work unless you manage to fall on "your" fix to get them going early in the game ..
so fanatico, are you saying that you have them drivers installed but also saying you have no 3d acceleration? if so tell why you "know" there is no 3daccel..
