Mandrake 9.1 scanning for SCSI

When I set up my P2 450MHz, I put in an old 1 gig HDD that came out of a 486 I had built up. I planned on installing Mandrake 9.1 on the computer with very bare programs etc. on it and I'd already used Mandrake 1000+ hours. The only problem, is that it was scanning for IDE, so it can't find an IDE harddrive and goes to look for a SCSI driver. To my knowledge, this motherboard with the P2 on it doesn't even support SCSI, muchless there is just a Primary IDE and Secondary IDE port on the board. The HDD might possibly be SCSI, but I highly doubt it is. Any clues as to why it won't recognize the HDD as IDE?

Does the motherboard BIOS detect the hard drive during POST?

Is the motherboard BIOS setup correctly i.e. IDE channel active for the hard drive or all channels set to auto?

Drive configured correctly as master an on the correct IDE controller?

If all that seems correct then does the hard drive function at all?

It all seems correct and the harddrive functions. I've tried setting up with another HDD, and its doing fine, but I'm just curious as to why the other won't work...
