Mandrake 10, sound problems!

Hey there everyone,

Im not a newbie, but im not far off.

Heres the situation, I did a clean install of mandrake ten the other and everything was working fine, until i started playng with my monitor settings. I was trying to get a big desktop (dual monitor) , when I restarted after making changes to get dual monitor i couldnt get back into KDE so i had to edit my /etc/X11/XF86config-4. I made the necesary changes to get back into KDE and now my sound is dead it comes up with the following error everytime i reboot,

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I have been all over google, ALSA, and all the other sites associated with the problem

As you already know im running Mandrake 10 with a sound blaster 5.1 MP3, if you need anymore info let me know and i'll post.

Thank you to all in advance.

Have you already tried the oss sound driver?

You might also copy /etc/XF86Config-4-old (I'm not on a Linux machine(at work), tonight I can give you the exact name) to /etc/XF86config-4 --> The 'old' file is the default file. Tis should work fine if you haven't made any changes yet.

If you do have made changes, just use VI to get the soundsttings out of the default file, and insert them in your own one.
