lost kmixer and gnome mixer capability

I just installed a new motherboard. It has the sis 746 chip-set. the on-board audio is a c-media 9738 . the sound works but the mixers don't . I'm using the arts volume control to adjust the sound. The sound quality is great, but I miss the mixer controls

What's the "dmesg" chunk from the sound module load look like? oh, and what distro? Mandy and SuSe use alsa instead of OSS. The 9738 is a really new card and not all of the features are supported right so you may only have 2-channel audio...

Cheers,
