Linux (RH7.3) and via8233a

Can someone help me with instaling ata133 (or any other ata standard) and ac97 sound in RedHat 7.3.
With default kernel 2.4.18.3 I can install via drivers for ac97 sound card but I get that 'unknown southbridge detected' and HDD runs in pio4 mode which is slow. But if I install 2.4.19.x kernel I have ata133 working but no sound . I also tried ALSA and installed it acording to readme and it doesn't work. All the modules are there and running but no sound. I tried OSS/Linux and it works great, but it's not free and I uninstalled it for that.
So is there a way to get ide and sound working or I have to choose between ata133 + buying new soundcard that works under Lin or ac97 sound working but no ata133?

When you installed 2.4.19-x did you compile ac97 as a module or built in?

As a module, but it only supports via8233 not 8233a version.

But I installed beta 2.4.19, I'll try stable 2.4.19 maybe it will help.
