Ok, the linux distro you're using doesn't have the sudo command apparently.
Code:
[tony@localhost ~]$ lpstat -a
lpstat: No destinations added.
This means you didn't configure any printer yet.
There was no need to try with 'Kyocera' as it didn't exist, and it was just an example name ie you'd replace it with the actual printer name that you chose when configuring it.
Reading this peppermintos.com post it does appear that 'sudo' should be available, so I'm wondering if your OS is properly installed. You might be best advised to seek support from fellow peppermintos users via their forum:
Hooray, hooray, hooray. I had a thought while I was pursuing with the terminal. I upgraded PcLinuxOS and then tried to configure the printer again. It's worked like a charm. The printer is great and a huge improvement on the cheap Brother I now intend to give away to charity.
I want to thank everyone who posted. It must be a bit of a bind trying to bring along a Linux dumbo like me and I appreciate the efforts you've all put in. It's also occurred to me that at my considerable age I should be keeping my brain alert - and what better way could there be than trying to learn at least the rudiments of Linux. I'll look for a beginners course on the net and see how I go from there.
May all you wish for yourselves come about painlessly.
Glad to read of your success with this. (Reading back, it wasn't clear whether you were trying to do this with peppermintos and/or PCLinuxOS, and sometimes it the the particular nuances of a given OS that can dictate the exact steps/commands required.)

Glad this worked out for you. Every linux user, not matter how skilled, was at one time a newbie.
No need to think of yourself as a 'dumbo'.
