Laptop keyboard not functioning

I have been trying to install FC 2 on my eMachines M6805 laptop. It has an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ processor in it, so I downloaded the x86_64 install images and burned them to CDs. When I started the install, I noticed that the FC 2 logo was not present on the boot screen like it was on the i386 versoin of FC 2. I hit enter to start anaconda. The first screen that I see is the media check screen. I hit enter to start the media check, but nothing happened. I tryed all kinds of key combinations including Ctrl-Alt-Del, but none of them did anything. I rebooted the laptop and looked at the release notes. After reading them, I tryed the install again, but this time used the linux nofb option to try to get the install to work. When the media check came up, again it did not respond to the keyboard. I rebooted and tryed using the linux mediacheck option to just check the media without doing an install. Again, the computer did not respond to the keyboard.

I tryed using my AMD Athlon XP 2000+ based desktop computer to try the media check, but it came up with a message saying that it was the wrong processor archetecture. Is my laptop unsupported, or is my CD bad?

The media check may take a few minutes to launch and run. Are you giving the machine enough time to do the work? If your machine has relatively small RAM it may take a while before it starts up.

Clearly if the keyboard works for other tasks, then it's not broken, so I'd guess it's more likely that your CD's are defective in some way. -- J.W.
