Laptop Keyboard

Hi guys, complete n00b to linux (but have been registered for some time as always intrested) i finaly decided to take the plunge and i bought a copy of Linux for Dummies whis is giving me loads of help as im reading through it.

my problem is that i just bought a Acer Aspire 5024 laptop which i am using to run linux for first time properly (not just of boot CD's) but i now have fedora core 3 running on it but the laptops own keyboard and mouse are not recognised in the OS (cant use them) i am using a USB keyboard and mouse at moment. as the book does not cover this exact problem and i am still a n00b im trying to resolve this

i know it has something to do with the drivers and if it was windows i would prob have it working by now, but i dont want to go down that lane.

any help from you guys would be greeat.

I've seen this happen with some distros. There was probably no /proc/bus/usb/* or similar directory created for your mouse or your keyboard.

_If_ that's the case, then it is your distribution's fault and there is nothing you can do except find a different, more professional distribution, and try installing that instead.

Have you tried using knoppix? if knoppix doesn't let you access your keyboard and mouse then probably nothing will. If that's the case, then you'd probably hae to try getting a different computer.
