Unhappy Kubuntu 8.04 broke my Sansa Disk. D:

So, upgraded to 8.04 hardy last night, went fairly smoothly (as smooth as you can at two am), very minor scuff-ups, but nothing overly annoying.

I own a Sansa Disk 1 gig mp3 player, which mounted just fine and with no issue on the past distro. I did the exact same thing as I had done in the past to charge it, and it was going fine until I ejected it. It refreshed the database (as always), went to the main screen, and went completely black. I thought it was a battery issue, but when I tried to plug it back in to see if it could continue charging, Dolphin doesn't acknowledge it's there, and the bloody thing might as well be in the artic, because it cannot detect the power source.

So, any idea why this would happen? And any idea on how to fix this?

(I'm fairly attached to this little thing, I'm a music junkie)

No idea but I had a 4GB Sansa Clip and basically the same thing happened to me. The unit hung after copying some music files. I tried to reset the device but it did not work. If you can get to the settings page make sure the USB is set to MSC. But if it does not power up not sure what you can do to the device.

michaelk: were you also using ubuntu when this happened? Anyone: I have just purchased the 4GB Sansa clip, and am running Fedora 8, and don't know how to get it to mount. It does not mount automatically. I am new-ish to Linux, so I'm looking for the probably simple sequence of commands to mount an external device. I much appreciate any advice. (I read these horror stories right after I plugged my Sansa in to charge, and hope that it doesn't die when I remove it!)

I was using windows at the time. :/

When you configure the USB setting for MSC mode the clip will appear as an ordinary USB flash drive. No worries, it isn't going to die. I suggest purchasing an AC and/or DC charger. This will allow you to charge the device independent of a computer and listen to music at the same time. A decent pair of ear or head phones will also improve the audio quality. For its size it does have very good sound quality.

Talking Sansa works fine now

I know this is a bit late, but my daughter just brought her kubuntu laptop home for an upgrade from 7.10 Here's the quick version.

Sansa worked fine in 7.01
Stopped working in 8.04 (both upgrade and new install)

Spent 2 days trying to figure it out including having it go 'dead' at one point.
Had a linux guru look at he and he diagnosed bad USB ports on the T-40.
I demonstrated that port was OK by plugging in a thumbdrive.
At this point the Sansa died completely as it it wouldn't turn on or anything. (in other words, even though it said 'connected' I have my doubts that it was even charging thru the port.

Some hours later (and after verifying the sansa worked fine on XP), I plugged a powered USB hub into the T-40 and then the Sansa into the hub.

Strangely enough, it then started functioning normally and has been ever since. My guess is that the sansa may just want a bit more power from the port than it was willing to supply, whereas the powered hub was fine. First time I ever saw something work thru a hub that didn't thru a direct port, it's usually the other way around. Go Figure!!!

Going for a bit of Vignoles now!!!
