Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

kpowersave and usb_storage error

I am using Kubuntu (Dapper) with KPowersave and my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5160) will suspend to disk and ram (and come back) without problems.

However, if I have had my USB HDD plugged in and them 'safely remove' it and then physically disconnect it from the laptop, whenever I try to suspend (Disk or Ram) I get an error message stating that usb_storage is in use.

Interestly, my USB HDD is usually /dev/sda1. If I plug it back in again it becomes /dev/sdb1

It would seem that it is not unmounting corrently when right clicking and selecting 'safely remove'

Anybody seen this before or suggest ways of tracing the problem?

Thanks

Mark.
