K7VTA3 Rev 8 Woes
Hi all, this is my first post.
I got a new ECS (Notoriously bad boards) motherboard with an athlon 2400xp for my birthday in October. At that time linux was still installed on the hard drive and was behaving itself. I reformatted the hard drive and used windows for about 2 months until I got the time to reinstall redhat linux 9.
...Needless to say, it didn't turn out too well... I tried my old RHL 7.1 Cds and it installed. I find this rather odd. I have a feeling I know what's causing the problem but I don't know how to fix it.
RHL 7.1 couldn't recognize the Southbridge, it's a VIA so I suppose that it's rather well supported. During boot it reported that the chip was only a VIA and couldn't determine what model or revision. The installation worked, but RHL 9 could determine what model, and revision. Installation failed miserably, in fact the installer never came up. It just restarted right when it reached the installer.
I also tried noprobe during installation, I assume that by hardware it meant all hardware. It still didn't work.
Here is my system make up:
ECS K7VTA3 REV 8
Athlon 2400XP
Radeon 7500 PCI <--Might be contributor to problem, not sure yet.
AC'97 Compatible sound (Model???)
ATI TV Wonder VE
60Gig ATA100 hard drive
40X IDE CDROM
4x2x24x IDE CDROM
256Meg DDR333
Thanks,
Paul
