Yes linux will run on this. Linux runs on most hardware... Definitely a Intel based system. You will be fine with running Linux on that...

Thats a nice system... How much is it costing you?

Thanx NLR for your fast and very "welcome" reply!

Ohh, this system will really rock the lamas as ;), here is the complete spec:

1x Intel Pentium 530, 3.0GHz, 800MHz, sock.775
1x 512MB, PC2-4300/533MHz DDR2
1x Asus P5GD2-Premium - 915P, 2xDDR2, 2xGBLan...
8x Seagate 200GB, 7200rpm, 8MB, SATA
1x GeForce PCX5300, 128MB, PCI-Express
1x 52x CD-ROM spelare, IDE, svart
1x Cooler Master Stacker, EATX-låda, 11x5.25"
1x 460W Nätdel Chieftec, 12cm fläkt, aktiv PF...
1x Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T PCI

The box is mine for: 2.300$, thank good for the cheap dollar, its so fun to buy hw nowerdays :)...

The box will serve as file-, ftp-, http-server, dc, mythtv back-end and all other common stuff... I really like that mobo, especially since it hosts 8 SATA ports/channels on-chip and that it will not clog the PCI bus interrupting the DVB card...

/Osten

I have been looking at the ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe motherboard as well for use with Fedora Core 3.

Did you have any trouble getting the system booted using a SATA hard drive?

What about the Marvell 88E8053 Gigabit ethernet ports? Did FC3 have the proper drivers for those?

I would be using those on a 100Mb network. This board also has built in wireless but I doubt that will work easily with any version of Linux. (still fighting my Tecra M2 to get its ipw2200bg wireless to connect to an AP).

I am planning on using this mother board with multiple Maxtor 300GB SATA hard drives along with a Hauppauge PVR-350 card for use as a combined front end/back end MythTV system.

I am a little concerned that this board is a little to new for linux.

Already found that support for SATA DVD drivers/burners is not yet fully supported so will be using and IDE DVD drive instead.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
