Hi, Im into buying a new box and want to asure that I will be able to run linux (suse or debian) on it as I plan...
I have desperately searched the inet and lots of forums but with no success, please, can anybody give me feedback on the hw below, can I run linux on it????
The box is mine for: 2.300$, thank good for the cheap dollar, its so fun to buy hw nowerdays :)...
The box will serve as file-, ftp-, http-server, dc, mythtv back-end and all other common stuff... I really like that mobo, especially since it hosts 8 SATA ports/channels on-chip and that it will not clog the PCI bus interrupting the DVB card...
I have been looking at the ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe motherboard as well for use with Fedora Core 3.
Did you have any trouble getting the system booted using a SATA hard drive?
What about the Marvell 88E8053 Gigabit ethernet ports? Did FC3 have the proper drivers for those?
I would be using those on a 100Mb network. This board also has built in wireless but I doubt that will work easily with any version of Linux. (still fighting my Tecra M2 to get its ipw2200bg wireless to connect to an AP).
I am planning on using this mother board with multiple Maxtor 300GB SATA hard drives along with a Hauppauge PVR-350 card for use as a combined front end/back end MythTV system.
I am a little concerned that this board is a little to new for linux.
Already found that support for SATA DVD drivers/burners is not yet fully supported so will be using and IDE DVD drive instead.
