Hi all
I'm building a new box. I have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe. It is rather insistent that its AGP card operate at 1.5V rather than the older 3.4 or whatever.

I bought an Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 on e-bay, supposedly new. But it arrived without manuals etc. The Nvidia site is long on marketing and very short on Tech Specs.
Anybody know if this card works with this board? How might I find out the voltage?

One other question, The video card has a thing on top of the chip which looks like a heat sink. Should I get a fan for that?

You could contact the manufacturer of the card and ask if it's 1.5 V. I have a Gainward GeForce FX 5500 and it works fine with my ASUS A7V8X-X mobo (which also requires a 1.5 V card to be used).

Not sure about the fan question.. it might be ok with just the heatsink though :/.

I did more research. Discovered Nvidia makes the chips not the card. No id on my card so I don't know if AOpen, Asus, PNY or somebody else made it. The consensus of the various cards with the chip set I looked at seemed to fit with current standards. Most just had the heat sink.
So I decided to blue flame it. I put a case fan in right next to it and pushed the go button. It seemed to work. That is the machine made no complaints about the video card. What complaints it did make are for a new thread.

The older 3.4volt AGP cards are from the days of AGP 1x days. Modern card like the FX line are AGP 4x&8x which are 1.5v

you shouldn't neeed a heatsink, as those somewhat lower end cards that don't come with them usually don't produce enough heat to require them. I have an ATI Radeon 9250 (PCI, in a server) with a fanless heatsink, even during hard use, i can open the case and put my hand on the heatsink, its usally lukewarm

Dactyl has settled down very sweetly on the hardware front. Now the problem is my ignorance of making my Linux prn available to the wife's M$ laptop over the wireless net. Always something.
