ipw2200: ipw-2.4-boot.fw load failed WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?


Sorry i'm new to Linux, in fact i've only learned Linux for half a month. sorry, i'm a chinese, my english is bad

what does this mean? means i cannot use wirelesscard? ipw2200...is it wirelesscard driver? and by the way, i use fc5, my laptop is sony vgn-fj57c/w.

and and by the way, i use fc5 but i use yum resources of fc6, is it okay? I have googled but still puzzled, thanks!

It means you have to load the firmware for the wireless device. Some distros don't include the firmware as it's not GPL'd - it's "free", but you have to agree to a different licence.

Your distro may include a "non-GPL" extras disk/site with the firmware, else there's information on what to do here: http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/index.php

Basically, you download the right firmware, add it to /lib/firmware (I think), reboot and you're done.
