Firstarter failed to load during boot....

Just installed Firestarter on Debian Etch. Installation & config went just fine, but at reboot it gives me an error message saying:

Firestarter failed to start.

How can I fix this?

Try to load it from a terminal from within X -- you should get a list of the errors and a hint as to what needs fixing:
Code:
gksu firestarter
You may need to use kdesu or similar, depending on what you have installed.

Cheers.

All I have is the net 'base' installation of Debian Etch

Offcourse I will post back with 'results'.

Hi again,

When I launch it from terminal, I get the following error message...

Code:
(firestarter:6299): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
Firewall started
How do I fix this?

Sincerely, Jørgen

Not sure -- you weren't by any chance trying to run Firestarter as root, without going through Kdesu or Gksu ? You won't be able to run Firestarter in gui mode without either using kdesu, gksu or adding root to the Xhosts 'allowed' list (although on the Firestarter FAQ at www.fs-security.com there is a workaround, if you wish).

You can check to see if Firestarter is in fact running (as a background service) by executing /etc/init.d/firestarter status as root.

It is possible that the error you're seeing on bootup (which is a different one from the GnomeUI one) is a result of some of the settings you selected in the setup 'wizard' -- eg. network connection sharing.

Cheers,

Michael.
