Intel Wireless N 2230 Kill Switch does not work

Hi,

I am trying to get the intel wireless N 2230 working on an obscure laptop. The problem is the kill switch which is tied to an fn key (fn + f12) and defaults to off. When linux boots I lose control of the wireless kill switch and 'rfkill list' shows it's locked by hardware.

I am using the latest development build of ubuntu (13.04) as I assumed that I needed a newer driver (12.04 + didn't work either). Kernel version 3.8.0.

Also, there is no way to control the kill switch function via the bios.

Does anybody know how I can make the kill switch function again? Or better yet, make the wireless always on? Any ideas?

Thanks

The model is stone NT308

EDIT:

Some more info.. I am able to get this working sometimes but it's cheap.. the kill switch turns on just after the post and just before the OS boot, so if I hit the button at the right time I sometimes get wifi, other times I get bluetooth only or just nothing.

Something has changed. By using the package 'firmware-iwlwifi' I am able to enable or disable the kill switch with linux booted. But I still only have access to the bluetooth, the wifi is hardware locked. Anyone had success getting round a hardware block?

I found the fix.. upgrade the kernel. I used the liquorix.net kernel.
