intel on board sound - not working

my laptop recently died so I'm setting up an old pc to use 'till I get another

everything works great except for the sound which won't work at all

I've done just about everything there is to do and none of it wants to work, so I'm gonna need some help if you don't mind

If you don't have any suggestions other than 'go buy a new card' don't bother replying - you will not be helpful, this machine will be replaced come tax time anyway....

Hi blackacidevil, Welcome to lq. From your output it looks as if you have both the old oss and the newer alsa modules loaded. You should be using one or the other but not both.

You'll want to Blacklist the oss modules. You could also try alsaconf.

okay, I spent 3 days trying to figure this out

nothing worked, NOTHING

so, I thought I'd look at the motherboard to see if maybe I was missing a jumper or something and...

well you know how speaker ports are usually green right?

well I'd plugged the speakers in to what looked like a green port using just my lighter to see back there...

but when I looked with a real light I realized that my speaker port was actually orange


so, yea everything works just fine now

Glad it's sorted, although it's strange that the oss modules are loaded. As long as everything is working I suppose there is no need to fiddle with it or break it.
