Installing 3 Samsumg 860 Pro SSD's with Raid?

Hi all,

I am completely new to Centos 7 fresh installs. I am installing 3 Samsumg 860 Pro SSD's on the SCU port of this mobo.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16813157350

My question is, I noticed it has some Raid options in the Bios (see attached image) and was wondering the proper way to raid a new install of Centos 7 that will be used as a web server (apache, mysql and etc)? Should I use one of these options, an option during the Centos 7 install or by typing commands into the CLI?

Should I use Raid 5 to and have the Centos and web server files on all 3 or how would you set this up?

Any help in this area would be awesome so I know I am doing this the best way.

Thanks in advance!

Server boards tend to be true hardware raid. They appear in a sense to be invisible to the OS. They are built generally from the raid bios at boot up. Some contro plus A key or such to enter and build. Claims it is a Intel C602 so there should be mainstream support for it.

I guess my question would be do you really need both speed and backup? SSD on raid may be useful for some heavy file access.

This also assumes this board works well with SSD on raid. Generally SSD isn't considered enterprise level and they tend to keep mechanical on hardware raid.

The manual will tell how to configure the drives and what socket to put them in for raid or stand alone.

Linux also has a number of software raid choices from LVM to Btrfs and ZFS.

While you are waiting for an experienced member to help you with setting up a Raid Array you should check your motherboard's manual to determine what kind of RAID and RAID migration options you have.

Some people like to have their os, applications and data on separate drives.

This article might give you a few ideas or at the very least a mini education.
