installed CDRW, now CD/DVD doesn't work

(Awesome site, just registered!)

My CD/DVD player drive worked fine until I installed a CDRW drive.

The CD player is: hdg: _NEC DV-5800A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

The CDRW is: hdc: SONY CD-RW CRX215E1, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

Linux (fully patched RH8) sees them both, but won't read any CD in the player drive.

I've got an IDE controller card, and the CDRW and zip drive are on one bus, and the cd drive is on the other. CD is jumpered to master.

This may help:

root@samson:~# dmesg | grep hdg
ide3: BM-DMA at 0xdf98-0xdf9f, BIOS settings: hdgio, hdhio
hdg: _NEC DV-5800A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdg: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache
hdg: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdg: command error: error=0x54
end_request: I/O error, dev 22:00 (hdg), sector 64
hdg: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdg: command error: error=0x54
end_request: I/O error, dev 22:00 (hdg), sector 64
hdg: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdg: command error: error=0x54
end_request: I/O error, dev 22:00 (hdg), sector 64

Thanks for any ideas.

Side note -- what's the best software for burning CDs on RH8?
