Inspiron 1521 framebuffer

This laptop has an ATI Radeon Xpress 1270 and I use the fglrx driver for Xorg. OK, so when I boot up the computer I can see everything on the screen well. After xorg loads, everything in the console becomes all goofed up. I can't read anything. I also tried getting a bootsplash, but I later realized that my framebuffer device isnt loading. I compiled in the vesafb into my kernel, but it still isnt working. I don't know what else to do.
