Inserting video card module (sis650)

Hi, I've been trying to get my Debian Sarge 2.4.23 kernel laptop to get into X without success for a few days. It has a SiS 650 video card and I heard the people over at SiS don't like linux very much. Anyways, I tried going to http://www.winischhofer.net/linuxsisvga.shtml but the instructions over there didn't seem to work... I kept getting various errors. So! I started searching the web again and found out that people have been hacing success with these drivers/modules. But the thing is I have no idea how to install that... I suspect it involves putting them in some directory and compiling the kernel again? Could anyone give me information about this please?
Also, which one do I use? I think the sis_driver.o-x refers to XFree86 version but how do I know what version I am using? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, yeah. I don't know if this makes a difference but the SiS 650 part of lspci is as follows:
Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 650 host (rev 01)

Oh! And this is also in there!
Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated System [SiS] SiS650/651/M650/740 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter
The reason I don't show the entire file is that I have no means to go into X and visit this forum from my laptop.
