inserting a module without recompiling?

This has *got* to have been asked before, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere...

Is it possible to insert/load a module without recompiling the kernel et al.

I am kinda bored with going through the entire kernel upgrade process just to load one lousey thing! However... once more into the breach dear freinds...

If the modules is already compiled against your kernel, use "modprobe <mudule_name>" or "insmod <module_name>".
If the module is not compiled, then you have to do it. Alhough you can just do make modules and modules_install (no need to do bzImage).
