initializing modem, then?

Hi Guys!
i had ES2898 Modem ( Creative Modem Blaster V.90 PCI DI5655 )
after configured my driver and making Query Modem i recieved message Modem Ready
good
but when trying to connect i recieved message Script timed out

i tried fixscript18 but this file compiled with gcc 2.x and i have kernels compiled with gcc 3.x
so
it's not worked with me
i can guess removing my gcc 3.x then installing the old one ( gcc 2.x ) it will make modem work with me
but how can i do that?

any idea?
