IGP GeForce 4MX & Vesa FB

I just purchased a new motherboard with an integrated geforce4mx. The memory is shared with the ram, i have 1 gig of ram and the video memory set to 128 megs.

When i run
lilo -T video
it tells me

VGA/VESA adapter:

640x350x16 mode 0x0010
640x480x16 mode 0x0012

320x200x256 mode 0x0013
640x480x256 mode 0x0101
800x600x256 mode 0x0103

Enable Screen Refresh bug is present.

Whats that about? I was wanting a 1024x768x16. The highest 16 bit color depth i can get is 640x480?!?

And whats this Enable Screen Refresh bug about...

How can I get what I want from this IGP and whats the "bug is present" speaking of?

you might want to try using rivafb instead of vesa

i was looking at that, im not familiar with this though, it was set as a module in my kernel compile so i was just doing a test

modprobe rivafb
then i ran the lilo -T video

to see if the options changed, which they didn't

would i, instead of typing
vga = 790
for example type
rivafb = 790
instead?

And I'm guessing ill probably want to compile it into the kernel instead of having it modularized

unfortunately I dont know a great deal about the subject, but you would just compile in rivafb and not vesa, from there you would use either rivafb= (for 2.6.xx I think) or riva= (for 2.4.xx I think) I'm not entirely sure which option you would use but running lilo -T afterward wouldnt hurt

yeah i couldn't get the rivafb to work so i simply adapted what i was doing to 640x480 and it looks ok, not grande, but good enough to demonstrate what i was needing to. Thanks for the info.
