I just downloaded Mandrake 9.0 and it won't detect the keyboard...
When the computer boots up the keyboard works. It also works on the initial Mandrake screens, however once it gets to the install screen it shuts off. I can't get it going again. I'm using a USB Gateway keyboard and I don't know what else to do. I tried installing it on another computer and the computer had a serial keyboard, that worked. Unfortunately, my computer is a piece of crap that didn't come with anything but USB. I also have a Microsoft wireless, optical, USB mouse and that works. Go figure. Is there something I need to do to get my keyboard working?

I forgot to mention I have successfully installed Red Hat Linux 7.2-8.0 on this system, however neither my mouse nor keyboard would work with FreeBSD either.

If you can enter in your BIOS. Look for USB keyboard. Set that to BIOS not OS. BIOS should be able to control the keyboard. Also set everything to BIOS, change AUTO to LBA, change memory timings to normal and CAS to 3.
In the beginning of installing Mandrake LINUX 9, you may need to press F1 to enter to the option screen. There you can enter some options to handle your USB devices. Sorry, I don't know the options.
Did you run a MD5sum program to make sure all your ISO images are OK. Did you run at atleast three times.

I went inyo my bios but I didn't see anyway to change my keyboard in fact no menu even referenced it. I didn't look for the other options I didn't see anything set to auto though.
I don't understand why it can handle the keyboard at one point and not at another. I'll have to see if I can find out more about how to configure the USB keyboard.
I didn't do any check on the disks. However, I did manage to install all the files on the system without a hence. I didn't notice the keyboard was down until I got to the root password.
It wouldn't let me enter my keyboard type or mouse it just did an auto right through them.
I did try to install in text mode but no luck. It knocked the keyboard off as soon as I entered text and pressed enter.

I had this same problem with a Logitech USB Mouse. I ended up giving up and going with a PS2 Mouse instead.
So, your machine doens't have PS2 Ports? I don't think I've ever seen a machine without them... strange.
My machine autoed through the mouse and keyboard config too, but if you use the mouse and click on the circles nest to mouse config and keyboard config during the install it will go back to them and let you configure... not sure if this will help though... it didn't with my Mouse...
