why what?
if you reformated the drive - of course the partition-table is altered.

What command did you use to do the job?

fdisk /dev/sdh1 ?

it should have been:

fdisk /dev/sdh

- you want to create partitions on the drive - not create partitions on the first partition of the drive...

there is the nicer to work with "cfdisk" tool - try that sometime

I ask since I got this: "fdisk: WARNING: rereading partition table failed, kernel still uses old table: Invalid argument"

And I've successfully format my hdd using mkfs.xfs.

Thanks very much@@@

just to make the difference clear:
you did not
Quote:
successfully format my hdd using mkfs.xfs
-you made partitions on the disk using fdisk (format)
-then you made a filesystem on the partitions you created - your choice for a filesystem was xfs

this
Quote:
/dev/sdh1p5
made me wonder...
I read this as: drive sdh, partition 1, p5 looks kind of weird to me - it would mean (sub)partition 5

That is why I thought that something was wrong.

It works for you - so it is o.k...
