Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

HP remote boot issues

I have several new HP DL360 g9s, which, when bios set to allow USB and when set to virtual drive=cd/dvd-rom will not boot from the virtual drive but instead, boots from a USB attached when servers were built.

When the bios is set to no USB, I get red screen. It only boots from USB.

Has anyone seen this issue? Servers are remote, can access thru ilo.

Hi!

No idea if this'll help but here's the quickspecs for the DL360 Gen 9 (there is no G9, the last "G" was G7)

Also, here's the iLO4 user guide which may be useful (I'm not going to read through it to see if it is.)

Also the UEFI deployment guide, (see section 4) though I realise you may already have this information.

I'm curious about this statement:
Quote:
... will not boot from the virtual drive but instead, boots from a USB attached when servers were built.
I used to have problems with Analysts raising fault calls for hardware engineers (me!) to travel to a remote Data Centre as they couldn't get a server to reboot after a software upgrade, it kept booting some install media which had been left in the machine during a previous visit by an Analyst!

Response? "Not me Chiefy, I'm engines! NFF (No fault found) Not a hardware issue, you'll have to visit site yourself and remove the offending media."

Is this your problem?

Play Bonny!

This a DL 380.

This issue, from talks with co-workers today, may involve ilo ports set on virtual media and possible firewall issues related to them. When I work thru issue, I'll let you know, Thanks.

To answer your question, there are two ways we can boot 1. remote cd/dvd 2. usb If usb has wrong image, should be able to use virtual drive remote cd/dvd and do the install to a good image located here. The fact that there are some port settings/firewall rules that may be affecting this remote boot tells me we need to check with firewall team. Either way, this is not an issue of a usb left in a drive.
