I consider buying a HP Deskjet 2540 or an Epson XP-225 MFP. I plan to use printing and scanning over wifi.
For both devices Linux drivers are available. Question is: which has fewer problems working over wifi with Linux?
Hi...
Welcome to the forum
I'm personally more inclined towards the HP Deskjet 2540. From what I have read here, there is good support for this printer using the HPLIP driver and from here, wifi seems to work with Linux.
As far as "fewer problems," I really couldn't tell you.
Regards...

Thanks. I used an Epson a (very) long time before. But I never used a wifi printer/scanner with Linux and I hoped for some reports from users who are using a wifi MFP with Linux, preferable with free software drivers.
A long time ago, 10+ years, I had an Epson 300CX. It worked fine with Linux. I can't attest to the current state of Epson's support of Linux.
HP's support of Linux, though, is second to none.
I have a Workforce printer. I haven't scanned, but printing - it always prints draft quality unless the highest settings are used, which isn't default, so the settings must be adjusted every time (various methods I tried that claimed to keep settings persistent did not work). Otherwise, all options available to other OSs are accessible.
I had an HP color MFP (photo-printer, actually, cost about $225 US years ago) for a few years. I bought it because of the good experience I had with an earlier HP printer, an officejet g-somethingorother, but my experience with the photo-printer wasn't as good (and the ink was expensive). It was always slow, and after less than 5 years, the paper feeder wouldn't work properly.
I recently replaced it with an Epson XP-310 MFP for $59 (plus tax, tags and dealer prep, "void where prohibited by law") on sale from Amazon. Never been happier. I've been using it over wifi (802.11 n - a little set-up was involved, but nothing difficult. The users' guide was fine). The drivers for both the printer and scanner functions are readily available and were easily installed (I'm using Fedora F22 and a 4.0 kernel). Works like a champ.
