hp envy laptop

After inheriting an HP Envy 6-1110us, I decided to put linux on it replacing Win10. Strangely I can not get the laptop to to boot from a USB with multiple attempts using different versions, primarily Ubuntu and Red Hat. I've tried changing the boot process using legacy / bios, and leaving it with UEFI in place. I've googled looking for similar issues and or help pages but with little success. Any suggestions?
thanks.

Maybe this link will help.
A simple search on UEFI Boot +Linux is all I did.

Hello and welcome to LQ.

I'd start with Ubuntu LTS and see how to put linux on the USB. You usually can't use live creators, maybe rufus might do but get someone to dd the image to a usb instead.

Normally modern computers should view the usb as a hard drive choice, not a usb choice. You either move the bios hard drive order so that usb drive is above internal or you use boot time option to select usb.

dup...redirecting...

dup of ..., so suggest replys go there....

closing thought to OP:
IF you 1st just wanted to try 'distro's
(and didn't initially care about speed/performance),
you can easily try VirtualBox. (simple & no impact to host)
I'd be curious to hear how much slower a VM runs, e.g. GUI...

Best wishes. Welcome! Enjoy.... [Bye here]
