Unhappy HP 3400cse Linux SANE support

I've recently aquired a brand new HP 3400cse scanner, and ive been working on it a bit. Apparently, SANE supports it, but indirectly. There have been records of getting a 3400cse scanner working under Linux, i read so on a website, however i lost the website. :-( Here's the mission-critical information below:

[ben@Darkflame ben]$ /sbin/lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 03f0:1604 Hewlett-Packard
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 03f0:0405 Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 3400cse
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

[ben@Darkflame ben]$ uname -r
2.6.6-1.435.2.3

any ideas? below is the output of dmesg, which is very long and confusing. PLEASE resond if you have ANY ideas what-so-ever! Thanks always!
