How to format harddisk which is got installed fedora 9


Hi all,

I've installed fedora 9 in my PC.Now i want to install windows in it but my harddisk is not getting formated. I tried it with windows xp cd. Can any one suggest me how to uninstall fedora. I would like to make it as a dual boot.

Hello,

You can always start from a Gparted LiveCD and delete all the partitions. Normally the disk will then be detected and formatted by the Windoze XP setup program.

Or using the same CD you can create your partitions as needed, indicating and formatting the correct file systems and then on install select on which partition to install either XP or Linux.

I had the same problem and it drove me mad. There is the DISKPART utility you can use from the Windows Recovery console that allows you to delete partitions on the target disk (Linux creates a partition that Windows doesn't like)

You have installed in the wrong order. Install the stupid system first.
What I would do is partition the disk, change the partition type of the windows disk to ntfs. It may install there. The proper way round is to delete everything, Install winows, then set up for linux.
