how to configure lucent modem


Hello i am Usman,
I am using linux redhat 8, i have lucent modem but linux did not detected it... and i am not getting it's drivers for linux
some one told me that linux has detected ur modem but not showing..
can u tell me how to configure my lucent modem and creating a dialer to connect it to internet...
also i am trying to use minicom -s and pppd but donot know what to do and how to use them to force linux to detect my modem and dial it...

plz guide me about it...

Usman,

Did you download the drivers and install them? If not, you can get them from here:

http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de.../redhat/8.26a9/

These are all rpm's for redhat.

The last time I installed the lucent drivers, it did not create a link from /dev/modem to /dev/ttyLT0. So keep that in mind. Also I prefered to use kppp to start the ppp daemon. It is very similar to windows world, and also can do time accounting if you want. Also if you use KDE, it has a nice applet that can dock into kicker.

If the rpm errors out, post the results and we can go from there.

for downloading drivers for lucent modem is not working
and displays me messege "Page not found"

can u provide me other link to download the driver

Try this one : http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/



Follow the links for RedHat, then choose on the the mirrors. You'll have to get the right rpm file for you kernel version
