How do you configure your universal remote to talk to a computers irda?

I picked up a Sony universal remote and I have a Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard combo that works under Linux. Now I downloaded the proper codes from lircconfig.commandir.com for the remote and I also had it generated config files for both mplayer and mythtv. The one thing I don't know how to do is sync the irda and the remote up. Even with the correct config file I don't have the codes for the irda receiver and if I scan for the codes it tells me the power will knock up when I get the correct one. The problem is there's no action set to shut off the computer so how would it knock off the computer and how would I know if I have the correct one? Does anyone know what I should do?

You will need more than just codes to get this project running.

You will need a program running the background, monitoring the irda port, if you do not have that yet.

Look at lircd http://www.lirc.org/

After you that setup, the lirc package includes a testing program called mode2.
http://www.lirc.org/html/install.html#testing
This program will report to you the raw data that is coming in the through the irda port.

Get that far and you are almost home.

I see that you did fill out your LQ Forum profile. This makes it hard for me offer any more advice.

Getting my mythtv frontend to respond to my remote was by far the most challenging linux thing I have ever done. May the force be with you.
