Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

How do I get multiple computers to talk to a raid array?

I won't bother you with the details, but if I have two servers and one raid array, is the network the only way to get the servers to talk to the raid array? That seems unacceptably slow, but I havn't seen it done any other way.

I would think you could run a hard drive cable to a port on the raid computer, so the connected computer could use it like a normal drive.

Is the network the only way?

I'm not a RAID or networking expert, but my best guess would be to set it up on one compter and then share it over the network to the other.

I think it would be way too complex to share the control over the RAID controller for two independant computers.

The best thing to get speed is a fast network - if you can't get your hands on a Gigabit Lan try a Firewire connection between the servers.

Yes, networking is the only way. You can have only one controller per bus. AFIK I haven't seen any type of hardware that would share.

So a SCSI 160 raid is only good for one computer unless you have a fiber channel network?

No. What he was refering to was installing a faster network. And yes a SCSI bus is only good for one computer. AFIK a SCSI bus can only have one controller. The network is independent of the SCSI bus.
