Help! Adding SCSI Tape Drive to RH ES 3.0

Have added an Adaptec 2940AU adapter and a Seagate 24GB DAT tape drive to my Linux server. Upon re-boot, Linux detected the new adapter and configured it. However, it can't see the tape drive. lsmod does not show st. /proc/scsi/scsi does not show any evidence of the tape drive. What step have I missed?

Load the st module:
modprobe st

Then check the output of dmesg to see if the drive is recognized.

modprobe st makes st show up when I do lsmod. However dmesg shows no mention of the drive and "mt -f /dev/st0 status" returns "no such device". Let me also mention that the SCSI BIOS sees the drive just fine (It's an Archive Python, not a Seagate, as reported earlier).

Now what?

fixed the problem. Upon further inspection I discovered the Adaptec module (aic7xxx) was not loaded, either. After loading that ans st, everything is fine. Then ran mkinitrd to make the changes permanent.

Thanks,

Al
