HDD only half the size it should be...?
Here's my problem:
I have a Samsung VG33402A HDD, 3.40 GB, setting up as a second drive. I've tried several times to set it up, as one partition, but each time, "df -h" reports it as 1.7gb.
dmesg:
hdb: SAMSUNG VG33402A (3.40GB), ATA DISK drive
hdb: 6643728 sectors (3402 MB) w/112KiB Cache, CHS=823/128/63, UDMA(33)
Here's my "hdparm -i":
/dev/hdb:
Model=SAMSUNG VG33402A (3.40GB), FwRev=EJ100, SerialNo=782003363a20
Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec Fixed DTR>10Mbs }
RawCHS=6591/16/63, TrkSize=32256, SectSize=512, ECCbytes=21
BuffType=DualPortCache, BuffSize=112kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=16
CurCHS=6591/16/63, CurSects=1611661413, LBA=yes, LBAsects=6643728
IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:250,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
PIO modes: pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4
DMA modes: sdma0 sdma1 sdma2 mdma0 mdma1 mdma2 udma0 udma1 *udma2
and "fdisk" reports:
Command (m for help): p
Disk /dev/hdb: 128 heads, 63 sectors, 823 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8064 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
which (823 * 8064 * 512) calculates to roughly 3.1gb, which is what I would expect. Using "cfdisk" even reports it correctly:
cfdisk 2.10s
Disk Drive: /dev/hdb
Size: 3401588736 bytes
Heads: 128 Sectors per Track: 63 Cylinders: 823
Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pri/Log Free Space 3397.98
But once I create the partition and mount the drive, "df -h" yields:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda5 3.9G 2.2G 1.5G 59% /
/dev/hda1 38M 6.7M 29M 19% /boot
/dev/hda7 15G 2.8G 11G 21% /home
/dev/hdb1 1.7G 996k 1.6G 1% /storage
I don't get it?
p.s. This is fdisk after I create the single partition:
Command (m for help): p
Disk /dev/hdb: 128 heads, 63 sectors, 823 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8064 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdb1 1 823 3318304+ 83 Linux
