Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

HD recognition

Hi,

I'm trying to boot from a xubuntu live CD and see my IBM 3650 disks, but I cant see them (either in lshw nor sys/block).
The server has an adaptec raid controller.

But, when I use red hat's rescue disk I see both my disks.

The xubuntu disk has a 3.0.0 kernel and red hat's disk is 2.6.18.

How can it be ?

Because the RedHat system installer includes the RAID driver modules, and the Xubuntu one doesn't. There should be an option to load a driver disk, so get the drivers from IBM, and see if you can make them work. However, IBM hardware can be very problematic, and using IBM's support on a non-supported OS can be entertaining.
