hard drive will no longer boot-wd30gig7200

My setup is a master 30gig western digital 7200, slave 60gig western digital 7200. It was running linux fine, booting off lilo in the mbr. I was installing a new kernel, have done it many times. Ran lilo to update for changes in lilo.conf, rebooted, and lilo will no longer load. I can still boot fine off my emergency disk. I restored my old linux.conf file and reupdated lilo, ran lilo -v. Rebooted, still will not load lilo. I double checked the jumpers, but they were fine, no reason they shouldn't be as I didn't touch them through this whole process.

I backed up everything on the drive and then completely repartitioned and reformatted. Reinstalled linux with lilo in the mbr as before. Lilo will not load on reboot after install, but I can boot fine off the emergency disk.

Just to be sure I had a hard drive problem, I tried installing windows. I departitioned and repartitioned with fdisk, and reformatted with windows 2000 installer. Installed windows 2000 and it will not boot off the hard drive either on restart. I checked everything in my bios as well, all settings as are they should be.

Seems that I have broken the master boot record part of the drive, or something. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I would really like to boot from this drive.

My suggestion would be to go to the Western Digital web site and download some diagnostic tools to see if the drive can be fixed.
