gtkam and Kodak CX6200 - erratic problems

Hello all,

I'm getting a headache trying to make my Kodak CX6200 digital camera work with gtkam/gphoto2.

I have installed everything I need to, usb hotplug and so on. I added gtkam using apt-get, and it worked fine. However, every time it starts up it reports the following:

Quote:

The next time I ran it, it said that it could not connect to the camera and there was a PTP I/O error. It then said that it could not list folders in "/".

It was suggested that I add "/dev/usbdevfs /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs defaults 0 0" to my fstab and then mount /dev/usbdevfs. This seemed to work. I ran "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" and got the following:

Quote:

E: Ad=85(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 64 Ivl=16ms
So the camera seems to be there.

After I did this, I ran gtkam again and it worked (apart from the initial error message again). I could browse the pictures on the digicam.

Then I quit and restarted gtkam, and it no longer worked. Now it reports the following error message when I try to use the camera:

Quote:
Could not list folders in '/'.

An error occurred in the io-library ('Bad parameters'): Could not find USB device (vendor 0x40a, product 0x574). Make sure this device is connected to the computer.
My kernel version is 2.6.8.1-3. When I run dmesg I notice the following line:

Quote:
usb 1-2: usbfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed ep 0x83 len 512 ret -32
Is this related?

The output of /sbin/lsusb is as follows:

I'm confused because I had it working, and then it stopped, and then I had it working again, and then it stopped again. Obviously it can be made to work, but permanently? Does anybody have any ideas? The manual for gphoto2 and gtkam is no help, and googling the error messages I got doesn't turn up anything useful either.
