Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

FC 7 and hp notebook

I have loaded fedora 7 64 on a hp 6000z notebook. It loads ok but after reboot it hangs and I have to manually restart. It seems to boot ok but when it goes to the login I get a blank screen.
Any ideas? I am pretty new with linux. Any help would be grateful.

Don

Don...I have the same HP laptop. I get Fadora 6 loaded OK. When it reboots it goes to a localhost login: ...I am confused myself. I have been trying different Linux OS's for this laptop from Ubuntu to Sidux, Mepis...a couple of others, and now this one. Still I don't have a working laptop. Frustrating huh!!

An idea i've been seeing...and dealing with myself is the video driver. I have tried a bundle of different versions of linux and most of the problems I see first hand are the video driver. So...I just move on to another distro. I went to "linux-on-laptops.com" to find out what best distro works on my HP dv6000. So after a few distro's I hope I can get this one to work.
