Extremely slow burn speed with cdrecord

I recently switched to Red Hat 8.0. I have, in previous distrobutions, burned CDs at a reasonably fast speed (5 minutes per CD, I am estimating), with a 16x burner. However, with Red Hat 8.0, when burning CDs, it takes slighly over an hour to burn a full ISO. I pass the speed=16 option to cdrecord (I've even tried speed=8 option after the speed=16 option was so slow twice), but both times took like 3800 seconds to burn the CD.

A search for google for cdrecord red hat slow revealed nothing .

Only thing I can think of is to make sure dma is enabled. You might also want to try speed=0 (yes zero).

type hdparm /dev/hdx where x is your cd rom more than likely c so hdc dma should have a 1 next to it, or type dmesg and scroll for your cdrom

I found these relevant lines.

hdc=ide-scsi
hdc: LITE-ON LTR-16102B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xd808-0xd80f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio

From this, is it safe to assume that DMA is enabled?
