I am looking at the "HCL" link on this site and just wondered:
Who here uses an external USB harddrive as a secondary harddrive?
What brand? Did you have any trouble? I have read some drives from some brands (Seagate, et al) work with Windows only.
I have a desktop with 1 harddrive (linux) and want a secondary external usb hdd. I have noticed, in the stores, some products state "Mac" or "Windows" but none state "Linux".
If they state only "Mac" or "Windows" then is it safe to assume linux is not supported? That would seem odd and extreme.
I use them, both off the shelf kind and ones that I make out of 2.5" SATA notebook drives and a USB enclosure.
I have had luck with maxtor one touch. Most of the ones you buy now are formatted NTFS, so you can format for what you want or use ntfs-3g/fuse. This is my preference, since my drives go back and forth between Linux and windows.
