Error -110, Redhat 8 can not get TwinMos III Mobile disk
Hi LQ friends,
I am Fakhrul from Bangladesh. I am a CSE student of East West University.
This is my first post. Welcome to all viewers.
When i insert my usb pendrive my linux (Redhat 8) can not get it, rather it generates error # -110.
After some reading from internet i get some scsi drivers should be configured in kernel compile time. Now my question is how can i detect that scsi drivers are properly installed. I do modprobe usb-storage and insmod ... but it does not work. Whenever i issue command
# mount /dev/sda1<2/3/4..> <destination> it reports that /dev/sda<1/2/3/4> is not a valid block device.
But surprisingly the mobiledisk works in my versity under Redhat 8.
Can anybody help me unless recompiling the kernel for scsi supports. But i need first if my system is already compiled with necessary drivers.
Thanks

Review LQ tutorials for articles on flashcard readers and external hd setup in linux for info on what kernel needs for usbmass storage devices. You may have to mkdir /mnt/pdrive and edit /etc/fstab as well. You may just need to load some modules(if your present kernel has them available) to get pendrive recognized. Compare U'versity RH8 kernel and /etc/fstab with yours. Good luck.

I need the list of loadable modules for working scsi completely. the usb can not get without that as my kernel is not compiled with scsi drivers.
Can you give me the lists?

The LQ articles--click tutorials then hardware, instead of forums-- in prior email explain. External usb hds and flashcard readers like pen drives and some cameras are seen as usb-mass storage devices. You may be able to upgrade your kernel from RH8 to one with usb mass storage support. Compare yours with U'versity RH8 kernel( and modules). Articles will tell you what you need in kernel too if you want to compile your own modules or kernel. Take a few minutes to review them. Cheers.
LQ forum search for usb pendrive can give you more leads.
