Digital camera

I got a Digital camera (Canon powerShot s20) but i cant get it recognized by the kernel. I've compiled just about everything i thought would be needed. Video4Linux, USB (since camera is USB) USB SCSI mass storage, Smart media read support, digital camera support, etc.. but i cant get it recognized. When i plug it in /var/log/messages reports new USB device connect and /var/log/syslog reports No driver claimed the new usb device. I just want to mount the camera as a USB storage and read copy) it's content to my HD. I tried with mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash but its not recognized as a block device. I tried sda1 through 7 and nothing. Does someone know what i need to compile to get it going and what device file to use to mount it?
Thanks for help in advance!

The Canon Powershot s20 is not a USB mass storage device, nor is it a USB direct video device, but it is supported under gphoto2, which doesn't yet have the nice GUI frontend that ghoto did. You can get gphoto2 from here.
