Diamond Stealth II S220 & no RedHat 8.0 X

Hi all;

I have been trying to install RedHat 8.0 for a few days but still no X.
I have a Diamond Stealth II S220 with Rendition Verite 2K and the installer sees it as RV2K Series.
I have tried to change the monitor but still at the test screen I get a momentary blank screen whenever I try to test the settings ( other than 8bit, where I get 320*200 )
I have started X but it is really discouraging with 320*200.
I have tried a lot of combinations (in X) and in the end :
I defined my card with its own name; and as driver I chose Rendition.
What I got afterwards is just random colors sprayed on the screen.
I can neither change my sessionCtrl + Alt + (F*), nor my resolution with Ctrl + Alt + (+/-).
I have also installed linux with automatic graphics screen logon nd when I try Ctrl + Alt + (BackSpace) I have a blank screen.

I have searched a lot on the internet but couldn't find any answers. (42 may be an good one).
here are my questions:
1 - how can I prevent linux to boot directly to graphics ;
2 - is there a way to have more than 320*200 with RedHat 8.0 and SII S220
3 - I am downloading RedHat 7.3, will it help.

I am really desperate ...
Please;
I do not want to run M$W ..... but it seems to be the better way now :-(

Thanks in advence.

Windows2000

Sorry;

I have waited and I have searched.

No reply, no info.

I had hoped the Linux community would provide some help but the drivers for Windows are easier to find ( even though Microsoft does not support the card, some people have arranged them )

I am going back to good old Windows 2000 :-(

So long .......

I have set up Red Hat linux numerous times on numerous machines and have never had a problem. I will be happy to help you if you want - can you give me the details of the computer you are trying to install Linux on - if you are still interested in setting up Linux on your machine -

thanks
Anil
