Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

One of my laptops where Debian Penguin lives has constant problems with:
1. sata disk parity error
2. dead eth0, -- cannot reactivate without reboot NETDEV WATCHDOG can detect.
3. ACPI error message, not installed handle --- and when battery goes low, sudden death without any warning.
These happen sporadic, disk may survive several weeks, may die twice a day, also eth0.
I have two other happy Penguins, and have had three more in the past (they died in one reason and another) The one I have trouble is less than 6 month old, and once sent back to manufacturer and came back with new disk drive.
I tried several different kernels (versions and options), but situation is more or less same.
I also reinstalled original wiErDOU OS, out of box state, and disk and/or eth0 dies also.
I somewhat suspect hardware (or logic board) problem, but I do not have any method to either prove or disprove.. and pinpoint
Can anybody recommend good tools? I tried to surf web, but maybe I did not use correct keywords, I had either too many or nothing useful...
