Has anyone managed to get a Dell P713W multipurpose printer working on Mint or Ubuntu?
I have tried with Linux Mint KDE 17.3 and Linux Mint KDE 18. The printer installation program recognizes the printer with either a USB, wireless, or wired connection, but, regardless of the connection method, the printer doesn't respond with any of the drivers that Mint has available for Dell printers.
The printer installation program under settings>system settings>printers lists a number of different drivers for Dell, several of them marked as recommended, but I get no response from the printer with any of them.
I would appreciate any help to get this printer to work. I can live without the scanner function, since there is an option to scan to a flash drive.
This printer is almost certainly OEM to Dell (that is, Dell didn't manufacture it, but bought it from another manufacturer and sold it under their label). At least in the past, Dell printers were usually Lexmarks underneath the labeling.
If you can find out who OEMed this printer to Dell, you might have better luck.
Not conclusive by any means, but this Dell review mentions the following
Quote:
Dell doesn't have its own printer technology, but instead gets other companies to build printers for it based on their existing designs. The multi-function P713w colour inkjet printer looks quite similar to Lexmark's Interact S605, and both printers use the same technology.
The Lexmark S605 does have a Linux driver available from the vendor themselves, so with luck that *might* work for this Dell printer too.
I tried two Lexmark drivers. One review of the Dell P713W said it was a Lexmark PRO805, so I tried that driver. I just tried the Lexmark S600 series driver. Same result. Absoutely no response from the printer. I know the printer works, because I was able to use it with Windows 10. This is not looking good!
Just to confirm that I am going about this the right way, I go to settings>system settings>printers. I click on add printers. A dialogue box comes up in which the P713W appears as a local printer (it is plugged into the USB port). I select it, and then click next. Another dialogue box comes up for selecting the driver. I choose Lexmark and then, from the list of Lexmark drivers I select the one I want. Click apply, and then try it out.
Thanks for the suggestions, and let me know if there is something I am doing wrong in picking a driver.
It reads like you're configuring the printer the right way,
but without a compatible driver results like this can be expected. It may
be a paperweight as far as Linux is concerned.
FWIW, I did find this page http://en.community.dell.com/support...528/t/19522631
discussing Ubuntu with similar Dell printer models. In particular, read the comments by dicocco and alpreston. This might work for you too, provided the package is still available.
