debian disk drive

i was thinking of buying a new disk drive but, I'm not sure which one to buy. So, I need advise about which one to get. It must read and write cd's and dvd's and be rugged and reliable and plug into my usb port
and hopefully (if I'm lucky) look really really kewl.
I also need for it to be TOTALLY and easily debian compatable.
all suggestions welcome.
Thank You very much in advance for Your info, It's very much appreciated.

Are you asking about a hard drive, or a CD/DVD burner? I'll assume that based on your comment that it must "read and write" CD's and DVD's that you're talking about a burner, in particular an external unit with a USB connection. If so, as long as your distro supports USB, pretty much anything should be OK. Please check the LQ HCL in my sig block for a wide variety of reviews of hardware components. Good luck with it

maybe I asked the question the wrong way, it happens a lot. I could not find the official debian supported hardware list. my atapi drive is not fully debian compatable. I am looking for a replacement for my emprex drive. emprex would not sell to me! what's wrong with my money? go figure.
