Change sync & refresh rates (to work with new monitor)

I bought a new monitor, an LG Flatron L226W 22" LCD.
It isn't working with my computer. The previous monitor was a 19" CRT.

The computer is running SuSE Linux 9.2, with an nVidia GEForce MX 420.

On power up, everything appears to be fine until the last moment where it is to display the desktop,
at which point it displays this:
Analog
Out of Range
74.9 kHz / 60Hz

Apparently these are horizontal sync and vertical refresh rate and I need to change these settings.
Do these numbers reflect the current settings or what the settings need to be?

The manual for the monitor says only the "Complete optimal frequency" is 60Hz.

I can do a ctrl-alt-F1 to get to a command line, at which point I can run XF86Config.
Currently /etc/X11/xorg.conf says that the HorizSync is 30-80 and VertRefresh is 43-76

Right Clicking on desktop gives a menu, one of which is "Configure Desktop ..."
From the, I select "Display" and then the Size & Orientation Tab
In the screen size pull down, I select the largest screen available, 1600x1200.
Then in the Refresh rate pull down, there is 60 Hz.
It is the only selection on this pull down.
As I select other screen sizes, I see that the Refresh rate for each is already at the highest possible.

Does this mean I need a new graphics card?

Have you tried to change the HorizSync and VertRefresh settings directly in xorg.conf according to your LCD monitor manual?
