CD-ROM Detected Twice

Hi everyone,

I am a

I am having problems reading from my CD-ROM under fedora core 2.
I have a notebook computer with an external pcmcia cd-rom drive.

The problem (it seems) is my cd-rom drive is detected twice (at boot-up?) and mounted twice. Fstab is automatically modified to mount the drive twice whenever I restart. The hardware browser is detecting my cd-rom as both hdc and hdd.

How would prevent the drive from being detected twice.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to LQ chonky_green. Could you post the contents of your fstab, and also provide some details on the notebook you're using (brand, model, basic specs, etc). Knowing those things should make the issue easier to diagnose. -- J.W.

Hi J.W.

It's great to be here, I have learned a lot from these forums.
Sorry for the (really) slow reply, I've been waiting to get my CD-ROM back....

Here's my fstab:
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 /win_d vfat auto,user 0 2
/dev/hda1 /win_c ntfs ro,umask=0222 0 0

I don't have my cd rom with me but when I plug it in it adds two lines to the fstab
mounting the drive hdc and hdd to /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/cdrom1

The annoying thing is when adding/removing packages from the fedora disk, after switching disks the update program is unable to read the cd-rom but it's still accessible via a file manager.

I have a Toshiba Protege 2000 (750MHz P3M 512MB 20GB) w/ a Targus Toteworthy PCMCIA CD-ROM.

Thanks.
